The fact that some hosting services don't support #ActivityPub for federating a #WordPress (.org) blog is a bit of a disappointment for those of us who believe #federation is a solution to the problem of centralized networks. Web hosting services should be independent of the project they host. At least, that's what I thought it should be until now.

I noticed that the "Fedivers Reactions" Blog from Activity Pub Plugin loads the user avatars uncompressed.
There are quite big filesizes like 221kb for an avatar. The more people like a blogpost, the more Co2 it will emit.

Vorabankündigung: Am 14.6. findet im @spektralgraz ein #fedicamp statt. Thema sind offene soziale Medien wie #Mastodon oder #Wordpress mit #activitypub-Plugin. Wir wollen einführen und aktuelle Entwicklungen diskutieren.
Wir wollen dazu beitragen, dass sich hier in der Steiermark soziale Medien entwickeln, die wir selbst kontrollieren können und die z.B. nicht Profile anlegen, die von autoritären Regimen und Konzernen missbraucht werden können. Wir hoffen, dass es angesichts der Umstände (wie zum Teil rechtsradikale Regierung in der Steiermark, Tech-Oligarchenherrschaft in den USA) genug Interesse gibt.
@murdelta und ich sind bisher das Orgateam, wir freuen uns über Verstärkung.

Free idea: #Ghost and #WordPress blog posts that federate out should in the publishing UX suggest that authors add the optional hashtag #Fediblog to the post. Not mandatory, just a nudge.

Mit MS Teams als Tool für Videokonferenzen geht es mir so wie mit #Elementor als #Pagebuilder für #WordPress: ich frage mich, wie dieser Scheißdreck so derart hohe Marktanteile erringen konnte.

Ahead of WordPress 6.8 Beta release and in absence of Anne McCarthy, the »Source of Truth« is published as a joint effort by Birgit Pauli Haack, Krupal Lakhia, Justin Tadlock, Jonathan Bossenger and JuanMa Garrido on the Gutenberg Times.
My highlight in WP 6.8 is the full-fledged Global Styles panel the Site Editor. I've been waiting for that literally for years.

#Fediverse setzt sich zusammen aus "federated universe", also dem Begriff des föderierten Universums. Halb eingedeutscht landet man bei #Fediversum.
#Mastodon ist eine Serversoftware, mit der man eine Instanz (einen Knotenpunkt) innerhalb des #Fediverse betreiben kann.
Es gibt diverse weitere, z.B. #Pixelfed, #PeerTube, usw. - mit ähnlichen oder auch unterschiedlichen thematischen Schwerpunkten.
Untereinander sprechen die verschiedenen Instanzen über ein offenes Protokoll, aktuell ist dies meist #ActivityPub.
Da #ActivityPub ein Standardprotokoll ist, kann es beliebig implementiert werden, so daß auch neue Software für das #Fediverse entsteht. Oder vorhandene Software einen Anschluß bekommt, wie z.B. #WordPress.
Es gibt mit dem #Fediverse also tatsächlich ein ganzes Universum zu entdecken... mit vielen Planeten... :-)
