Not only is the art made locally, but the stickers are printed here too! We're very proud to offer these and hope you like them as much as we do 😍

If you're frustrated about remote Fediverse profiles looking blank even though they're not blank, I've made a feature request about this on the Mastodon Github:

github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

TL:DR - If a remote profile is blank or outdated, a user could click a button to load the 5 latest posts.

The Masto devs have previously been concerned that backfilling would overwhelm servers, but 5 posts on request wouldn't seem to be too bad?

Any thoughts appreciated 🙂

Pitch If you browse a remote profile, and if it's blank or only has posts over 12 months old, there would be a button at the top of the remote profile's timeline labelled "This profile may be out o...

If you're running a Mastodon server, your members will be automatically shown suggestions for who to follow based on number of local interactions and local follows.

You can customise these suggestions in two ways:

- Admins can manually add accounts that will always be shown in follow suggestions

- Admins can manually forbid accounts from appearing in the pool of follow suggestions

There are step-by-step instructions for both of these at:

Fediverse admins, even if you're running a single-user instance, it's a good idea to have a public set of instance rules!

Rules make it a lot easier for other admins to decide whether they want to federate with you or not. Without any published rules, it can be much harder for outsiders to tell if an instance is run by nice people or abusive bigots.

I've tried to cover the most commonly asked questions about rules on single-user instances at:

Question for #mastoadmin: I’m using `tootctl media remove` to remove cached media older than 7 days from my object storage. I then use `tootctl media remove-orphans` to periodically clean up orphans — but this uses lots of transactions, which are charged.

Is there any disadvantage to using my object storage lifecycle rules to delete files on ` / cache / media_attachments/` after 7 days, rather than using `tootctl media remove-orphans`? I understand that this won’t clean up other orphaned media, but the bulk of orphans come from the media cache anyway.

Mastodon admins & mods often deal with spam from their mobiles. Keeping the network spam-free even though the admin/mod is not on their computer but are actually shopping, traveling etc..

The last Mastodon software update v4.3.4 has a bug that severely limits how well the moderation module can be seen on a mobile.

The way to communicate this to the Mastodon devs is by creating a GitHub ticket & if there is enough upvotes the devs will prioritize the ticket & hopefully fix the issue 🙏

If you've a GitHub account please read & consider upvoting the ticket below.

Boosts for reach & awareness appreciated🙏

Hi! 👋

I've noticed an issue with the visibility of the accounts table while accessing it from their mobile since the upgrade to Mastodon v4.3.4.

I like being able to use my mobile to do moderation actions so I've raised a GitHub ticket for the bug requesting a return to the previous table visibility.

If you agree & would like to upvote it, please do. Thank you

If you are running Mastodon 4.2: Mastodon 4.2.17 drops support for Ruby 3.0 (which is no longer supported upstream).

If you are using Ruby 3.0, you can update to Mastodon 4.2.16 which contains the latest security fixes, but please note that this version has a known vulnerability if you are using SAML authentication with Mastodon.

If you are running Mastodon 4.2 + Ruby 3.0, we strongly encourage you to update to Ruby 3.2 and Mastodon 4.2.17 or above.

We just released Mastodon 4.3.4, 4.2.17 and 4.1.23. They contain bug fixes as well as security fixes (medium severity)

We recommend every instance administrator to update as soon as possible.

If you are using our nightly releases, a container image with the fix has been published with the `nightly.2025-02-28-security` tag.

Full release notes and update instructions are available on our GitHub release page: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/r

My goodness. There is a new bot instance around at mastodon.grafa.com that’s spamming my timeline with dozens of posts per hour with posts in all sorts of languages.

That I think is the first time I’ve de federated from an entire instance for spam…
