@homegrown @stefano @admin To all: Do you need a proof how efficient jails in #FreeBSD are? Read this! Amazing!
FediMeteo: How a Tiny €4 FreeBSD VPS Became a Global Weather Service for Thousands

I'm starting to prepare the ideas for the talk I'll give at OSDay (https://osday.dev/agenda) next month. One of the issues I often face is explaining to people that just because I appreciate and prefer using the BSDs doesn't mean I'm AGAINST Linux. I never liked the "distro wars" even twenty-five years ago because I’ve always thought that, in the end, we’re all heading in the same direction.
The message I’ll try to convey isn’t that I don’t want to use Linux, but that the BSDs are more suited to the ways I use them, and why, in my opinion, they can also be useful to those who will attend. In other words, I’ll suggest giving them a try.
In an extremely polarized world (even in tech), it probably won’t be easy.
Just before the Covid emergency, I was offered a "challenge" talk (by a Windows sysadmin I know). People, he said, love this kind of format. I declined. For me, it's just about using the right tool for the right purpose, not a war.
Dialogue, not battle.

"System Monitor monitors CPU usage more accurately, and consumes vastly fewer #CPU resources while doing it! If you’re using #Plasma 6.3 on #FreeBSD, you’re in luck: the System Monitor app and widgets can now collect #GPU statistics on your system too."
Awesome!
(2/10) I've also used things like #proxmox, #homeassistant, #freebsd and #openbsd a bit before. Yeah I'm aware of the #deepweb or #darkweb (whatevs you call it) so I have also used #tails and #whonix. I've also used #kalilinux before but it was for a bit of learning how to do basic hacks. Local network stuffs. I didn't wanna study other people's scripts cos I wouldn't learn that way.
Hello everyone! I joined to this community few moments ago. I'm new in #FreeBSD systems, I'm using it in my laptop and a physically owned server. I want learn from you all things can be made by using this OS. Also I will share my discoveries.
P.S. Sorry for my bad english, my native language is spanish.

Got a question for the #fediverse :
Those of you who use tiling window managers (like i3, dwm, xmonad, etc)
How do you handle, say, a giant curved monitor? Seems mad to have a terminal plastered across a 49" curved monitor. Can you split the monitor into "screens"? Is X Windows up to the task? (Please, no suggestions for Wayland.. it's not really complete yet)
Many thanks!

Perhaps the most terrifying and most difficult question of any install. Mainly due to lack of planning though ….
If you are #Indonesia n and using #FreeBSD, #NetBSD, or #OpenBSD, even one of them forks, let's say hi! I can't find Indonesians who use BSD.
Progress!! I managed to get the #PinePhonePro screen working on #FreeBSD Long way to go yet, but this is a massive step forward for making FreeBSD usable on the device.

Announcing FediMeteo – Weather in the Fediverse!
UPDATE: I have created an account for updates and other information on FediMeteo - follow the account @admin to stay updated!
UPDATE: Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Switzerland have just been added
Weather has always influenced our lives: from agriculture to outdoor activities, to extreme events that, thanks to modern technology, can now be predicted with greater reliability. Personally, weather plays a significant role in my daily decisions, which is why I decided to create a service tailored for the Fediverse.
FediMeteo uses Open-Meteo data to publish updates every 6 hours, including current weather conditions, forecasts for the next 12 hours, and predictions for the upcoming days. Each country is served by its own dedicated instance (e.g., it.fedimeteo.com for Italy), managed through snac to ensure simplicity and efficiency in publishing.
You can follow FediMeteo directly in the Fediverse (on Mastodon and compatible platforms), via RSS, or by visiting the dedicated page for your city (e.g., fr.fedimeteo.com/paris).
Currently supported countries include:
Austria, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, – with many more regions coming soon!
FediMeteo is hosted on a FreeBSD-based VPS, with each country isolated in its own jail to ensure security and scalability.
Visit the main site to explore the national instances and start following your local weather updates today:
https://fedimeteo.com
Happy weather monitoring to all!
FediMeteo is dedicated to my grandfather, who every evening would give me the weather forecast based on TV, radio, and his personal experience. He would convince me that the weather would be bad, so he had an excuse to accompany me to school instead of me going alone.
